Climbing Roses have long canes that allow the gardener to train them on arbors or fences. Smaller Climbing Roses can add a delicate feel to an intimate space. Or plant a larger climbing rose along an open fence and allow it to grow freely. Plant roses where their fragrance can be enjoyed while they are blooming. Pruning is especailly important to maintaining healthy roses. See pruning tips below for further information. In colder areas, protect rose limbs (canes) by wrapping in burlap. This will insulate against cold temperatures and prevent the canes from drying out. Hilling is also recommended during the cold winter months. This involves mounding compost or mulch around the base of the plant to protect against cold temperatures.
Needs winter protection where temperatures regularly reach 15°F and lower.
